HyperWhisper plays a short chime when you begin recording and a different chime when you stop. This audio feedback lets you know exactly when the app is capturing your voice without having to look at the screen.

Enabling or disabling sound effects

1

Open Settings

Click the HyperWhisper menu bar icon, then open Settings.
2

Go to Sound

Select the Sound section.
3

Toggle Sound Effects

Turn Sound Effects on or off. When disabled, no audio feedback plays during recording.

What you’ll hear

Two distinct chimes play during normal use:
  • Start recording — A chime plays as soon as you press your recording hotkey and the app begins capturing audio.
  • Stop recording — A different chime plays when you release the hotkey or click stop.
The sounds are pre-loaded at startup so playback is immediate with no perceptible delay.

Sound themes (macOS only)

Two sound themes are available:
ThemeDescription
ClassicTraditional system sounds
NewModern, subtle sounds
The theme selector is stored internally but is not yet exposed in the Settings UI. Theme switching will be added in a future release.

Sound effects volume (macOS only)

Sound effects volume can be adjusted independently from your system volume on a 0.0–1.0 scale. The volume control is fully implemented but does not yet have a slider in the Settings UI — it defaults to 0.5 (half volume). A volume slider will be added in an upcoming release.
Windows plays sounds at a fixed volume. Independent volume control for sound effects is not yet available on Windows.
